\nThe State Institution \u201cSytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine\u201d continues the practice of holding masterclasses on topical issues of orthopaedics and traumatology. One of such pressing issues is the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases of the musculoskeletal system.\n<\/p>\n
\nIn recent years, the number of oncological diseases, including those of bones and joints, has been increasing. The incidence of malignant neoplasms of bones and articular cartilage in Ukraine is 1.2 cases per 100,000 population. Among malignant neoplasms of bones and articular cartilage, osteosarcoma accounts for 23\u201335%. In the general structure of cancer incidence, bone tumours constitute 1\u20132%. Benign bone tumours occur 2\u20133 times less frequently than malignant ones. Malignant tumours are observed 1.5\u20132 times more often in men. Bone metastases are 6\u201320 times more common than primary malignant bone tumours.\n<\/p>\n
\nIn the age and sex structure of morbidity, these neoplasms constitute 6.8% among girls aged 0\u201314 years and 5.6% among young men aged 15\u201329 years. Specialised treatment covers 63% of patients, while 38% do not survive the first year.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology has extensive experience in the treatment of musculoskeletal tumours, the early diagnosis of which is complicated by the possible insignificance of symptoms at early stages, lack of oncological alertness among doctors, and insufficient patient diagnostics. Bone tumours are characterised by specific radiological and clinical features, knowledge of which allows early detection of pathological processes and timely qualified treatment. The correct choice of treatment method determines not only health but also the patient\u2019s life. Diagnostic difficulties are associated with the fact that in the early stages bone tumours have very few objective clinical signs.\n<\/p>\n

\nEquipment:<\/strong> biopsy devices, bone models.\n<\/p>\n \nThe masterclass will be conducted by Dmytro Mikhanovskyi, Orthopaedic Traumatologist of the highest category, PhD in Medicine, staff member of the Bone Oncology Department of the Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology.\n<\/p>\n \nWe invite orthopaedic traumatologists, surgeons, and oncologists to participate.\n<\/p>\n \nParticipants will have the opportunity to personally practice biopsy sampling techniques on bone models under the guidance of an experienced specialist and receive a certificate with CME credits.\n<\/p>\n
