On 18 September 2025, at the Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, a scheduled scientific and practical conference was held in a hybrid format (offline and online): “Hip Joint Arthroplasty in Modern Conditions”, with 110 participants. This conference, held within the framework of the “Traumatologist’s Day”, was organised by the Kharkiv Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists (UAOST) and the Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology NAMS of Ukraine.

The conference was opened by the Director of the Institute, DMSc Stanislav Bondarenko, who welcomed all participants and emphasised a number of unresolved issues, noting that these issues had also been discussed at the 45th SICOT International Congress in Madrid (2025). Prof. Volodymyr Tankut gave a speech on the history of joint arthroplasty in Ukraine, highlighting the significant contribution of Ukrainian orthopaedic surgeons to the development of modern national arthroplasty. Prof. Mykola Korzh, in his introductory speech, focused on the current and unresolved issues of joint arthroplasty in Ukraine. He stressed that during this relatively short historical period, the method has spread widely across many regions of the country, giving rise to complex organisational and clinical issues related to both primary and revision arthroplasty procedures. He further underlined the urgent need to establish a Ukrainian Association of Arthroplasty Surgeons, whose main purpose would be to address scientific, organisational, and clinical challenges.

The first presentation by DMSc Stanislav Bondarenko (co-authors: Prof. V.A. Filipenko, Prof. V.O. Tankut) was devoted to topical issues and complex cases of primary hip arthroplasty, modern management, and the prevention of complications. An interesting report was also presented by DMSc V.M. Makarov (Dnipro) on the results of using 3D-printed trabecular acetabular components in hip arthroplasty. Further presentations were delivered by PhD O.P. Marashchuk, DMSc V.O. Babalian, and Dr. B.V. Ponomar (co-authors: DMSc S.Ye. Bondarenko, Prof. V.A. Filipenko), focusing on complex cases of primary hip arthroplasty and arthroplasty following metal osteosynthesis of the proximal femur.

Special attention was given to the presentation by PhD O.P. Marushchak, which addressed the treatment of periprosthetic infection without the use of spacers. The author introduced modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of periprosthetic infectious complications. All presentations were illustrated with convincing clinical examples.

Of particular relevance and timeliness was the report of PhD I.I. Spesyvyi, an expert of the Kharkiv Department of Health, who outlined the state of hip and knee arthroplasty in the Kharkiv region and highlighted pressing issues in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 2180 dated 26 December 2024, “Certain issues of the functioning of the electronic queue for patient arthroplasty”, which, as discussed by conference participants, requires clarification and adjustment.

Further, the authors DMSc V.A. Staude and PhD Z.A. Arutyunyan presented a report on the peculiarities of rehabilitation of patients after hip arthroplasty using modern methods based on a comprehensive rehabilitation system with the application of artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

All reports were listened to with great attention and interest, followed by lively discussions and debates.

In his closing remarks, DMSc Stanislav Bondarenko emphasised that all the presentations were carried out at a high modern scientific level, and their results are of great importance for developing recommendations and proposals from our conference to the Ukrainian Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
