In Madrid, the 45th SICOT Congress – the world’s oldest international community of orthopaedic surgeons and traumatologists – took place.

The 45th SICOT Congress – the world’s oldest and one of the most influential international orthopaedic and trauma surgery communities – was held in Madrid. A representative delegation of the Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine actively participated in this global forum.

For the first time in the history of our country, under the auspices of SICOT, a scientific and practical symposium dedicated to osseointegrated limb prosthetics was held.

The Director of the Institute, DMSc Stanislav Bondarenko, acted as the initiator and main organizer of this symposium, which the Institute’s team — Oleksandr Haluzynskyi, Oleksii Dynnyk, Oleksandr Sitenko, and Vladyslav Viatkin — had been preparing for more than a year. The symposium became the result of meticulous scientific and organizational work, as well as an example of genuine international cooperation. We sincerely thank SICOT President Prof. Vikas Khanduja and the SICOT Executive Board for their support.

Special gratitude is extended to the founders of the osseointegration prosthetic technology — Prof. Ricard Brånemark, Prof. Hendrix van de Meent, and Prof. Oscar van Waes — for their fruitful cooperation and participation.

A presentation by the Distinguished Scientist of Ukraine, Professor, DMSc Volodymyr Akymovych Filipenko, devoted to the use of modular stems of hip endoprostheses during revision surgeries, also aroused great interest and sparked a lively discussion.

For Ukraine, this is not just a scientific event — it is a new page in the history of national orthopaedics and an important step toward the international recognition of our achievements.
